Maiden's Grave
Two mills down a well maintained dirt road is the Beowawe cemetery. In that cemetery is on grave that stands above the rest. The grave was found by the builders of the Central Pacific transcontinental railroad. They could make out that the bones belonged to a female and judging by the size a teenager. They carefully removed them and took them to a spot overlooking the tracks (which you can see in the pictures). Every conductor on every train would blow their whistle when passing in honor of this brave young girl and the railroad maintained the grave site for many years. At least until they learned the rest of the story.
Actually a little forensics and diary reading shows that the bones the railroad workers found belonged to Lucinda Duncan - a grandmother who perished on this spot!
