Smith's Ford
There is no reason to visit this place. There are no remnants, no foundations, no artifacts to see. Still it was an important to the emigrants travelling through Nevada in covered wagons. It was a safe place to cross the Humboldt River. Although you can't find this exact place (it is on private property and a dam int he area has probably changed it dramatically anyway), on the way there you will cross the Humboldt. The gravelly river - minus the steep banks - must have been what Smith's Ford was like. To get there take Irish American Dam Road outside of Lovelock east. Where it turns ot dirt, park your car, find the opening between the fences on the north and follow the rutted road 2/10 of a mile.
