Wedekind Mine

Next time you are on the Pyramid Highway and cross McCarran heading north, look to your left and you will see the dumps from the Wedekind (and vicinity) mines. It was the only real producing mine in the Reno area and caused quite a rush. You can park just to the north of the dump site and take a very short walk up the hill. You will probably be sharing the paths with off road vehicles (bottom right photograph), so keep and ear out and be ready to move off of the path.
